In May 2004, Metro de Madrid awarded to Dimetronic the contract for the refurbishment of the Signalling and Interlocking Systems of Line 3. The works include the substitution of the existing relay interlockings by Westrace electronic interlockings in a Hot Stand By configuration, as well as the installation of a new ATC system, based in a Distance To Go ATP/ATO. Line 3 today includes 11 stations to a total of 6,3 Km of double line. The works will be carried out simultaneously to those corresponding to the extension of passenger platforms, which will allow the exploration of the line with 6-car trains, instead of the current 4-car scheme. Works will be finished by the summer of 2006.
