Dimetronic Signals enters the Brazilian railway market with a millionaire contract

·        The total value of the awarded contract is 280 million Euros

·        The consortium led by Dimetronic Signals will modernize the signalling of several suburban lines in São Paulo

São Paulo, 11th November 2009.- The railway Signalling company Dimetronic Signals, leader in the Iberian market, has announced today that the consortium they lead has signed two contracts valued in 280 million Euros to modernise and improve the signalling and ATC systems of the suburban lines 8, 10 and 11 of São Paulo, Brazil.

Dimetronic will operate in Brazil under the name of Invensys Rail Ltda. It will install their SIRIUS system, a Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) type system, in the three suburban lines together with its rolling material and WESTRACE electronic interlockings, electric drive switchers and LED signals, adding to a 60% of the total contract achieved by the consortium. The winning consortium is made of the Brazilian company Montagens e Projetos Especiais (MPE) and the Spanish telecommunications company Infoglobal.

In order to minimise the service disruption during the improvement works, the new system will be designed and installed so that it can operate alongside the existing signalling system until it is completely installed and operational. This working methodology has already been used by Invensys Rail in other subways in different parts of the world, proving the company’s ability to carry out successfully complex projects within the agreed deadlines and, at the same time, minimising the impact on the service for the passengers.

"This contract represents the biggest achievement of a Spanish company in the Brazilian railway market and will set up an excellent platform for the growth of our company in this country” says Jesús Guzmán CEO of Dimetronic Signals. “Brazil is a market where our technology and solutions can contribute a lot in this particular stage of fast development when there will be new opportunities both in freight lines, urban and metropolitan networks and in the high-speed train lines planned for the country” adds Mr. Guzmán.

“This is the largest contract that Invensys Rail has ever won in Brazil, but above all, it’s a further success of our CBTC (Communications – Based Train Control) systems after Invensys Rail UK’s installation of the signalling system of the new underground line in Singapore, one of the most sophisticated in the world. These CBTC systems have been developed at the Center of Excellence that IRG has in the Dimetronic headquarters in San Fernando de Henares, Madrid” ends Mr. Guzman.

The three suburban lines belong and are operated by the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM). Line 8 has a length of 35km and has 20 stations; line 10 has a 35km layout with 15 stations and line 11 has a total extension of 37 km and 12 stations. Altogether these three lines provide a service of 136 trains plus maintenance vehicles for more than one million passengers per weekday.

Dimetronic Signals announced this new contract during the "2009 Business on Rails conference", the most important railway trade fair in Latin America held in São Paulo between the 10th and 12th of November.
